West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park

This shoreline was originally used as a log dump for the Shawnigan Lake Lumber Company. A long wooden trestle, built on piles in the lake, was erected in front of the current park site. Loaded rail cars carried logs out onto the trestle and dumped the logs into the lake. A company steam boats would then drag the logs across the lake to be processed at the mill. You can still see some of the original piles in the lake just south of the park.
